Astrology of this New Moon
The Full Moon will be at 17°Scorpio 20′. Scorpio is a fixed water sign ruled by Mars in traditional astrology and Pluto in modern astrology. Scorpio is a sign known for its intensity.
At the time of the Full Moon, we have a couple of other interesting aspects taking place. Close to the Sun, we have Mercury, at 20° Taurus sextile to Neptune at 20° Pisces. Neptune, in turn, has just had Venus at 21° Gemini move past a square to it.
Mercury is associated with communications, thinking, and learning, while the sextile is a helpful aspect. Neptune is associated with dreams, illusions, idealism, and blurring the boundaries. While not good for strictly rational thought, this is a nice aspect for creative and intuitive thinking.
Venus is associated with relationships, money, and values, while the square is a challenging or difficult aspect. While the connection between Venus and Neptune can seem madly romantic, there is a strong possibility that we are seeing only what we want to see right now. There are strong themes of disappointment and disillusionment with this aspect.
This Venus square Neptune aspect is rather interesting as it will be ongoing for a while yet and is tied into the upcoming Venus retrograde. In fact, there will be three different phases that this aspect will be felt, because of its closeness to the Venus station retrograde degree (21° Gem 50′).
- The first phase is when Venus is moving in direct (prograde) motion and making a square to Neptune. Venus will be within one degree of this square to Neptune from the very early hours of the 1st of May until the early morning of the 8th of May.
- Venus will station retrograde (appear to slow down, stop and change direction) on the 13th of May. By the 16th of May, retrograde Venus will be within a one-degree orb of a square to Neptune again. This will be within that one-degree orb until the 23rd of May.
- On the 25th of June Venus will have stationed direct (appear to slow down to a stop and change direction again) and will soon afterward be moving in forward (prograde) motion again. It will take until the 26th of July for Venus to be within one-degree orb of Neptune for the third and final time around. Venus will be within one degree of the square to Neptune until the 28th of July.
It will be interesting to see what happens around the 26th to 29th of July, as this will be the third square it makes to Neptune, and Venus’ retrograde period will be done for another 18 months. The retrograde shadow for that Venus retrograde will end on the 29th of July.
What happens during a Full Moon is sometimes related to the corresponding New Moon in the same zodiac sign six months prior. The corresponding prior New Moon for this Full Moon was on 27 October 2019.
