Astrology of the 31 October 2020 New Moon

So for Halloween this year, we have not only a Full Moon but a Blue Moon. A Blue Moon is when we have two Full Moons in the same calendar month. Unfortunately, it isn’t really blue; it is called that because it happens pretty infrequently (usually once every 2 or 3 years).

For those in time zones more than + 9 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time, like Australia and New Zealand, the Full Moon will occur in the early hours of 1 November. So technically, for some, this will not officially be a Blue Moon.

The Full Moon will be at 8° Taurus 38′. Taurus is a fixed earth sign ruled by Venus. Venus will be in the sign of Libra at the time of the Full Moon. Libra is also ruled by Venus, so the ruler of this Full Moon is in domicile and able to effectively do as it wishes for the most part.

What will make this Full Moon quite eventful for many is that Uranus (planet associated with the sudden, shocking, and surprising) being so close to the Moon at the Full Moon time. When planets are conjunct, the qualities of the planets involved tend to blend together. As Full Moons are often associated with endings or culminations, there may be sudden, surprising decisions made around the time of this Full Moon.

Potentially throwing a bit of a spanner in the works is retrograde Mercury (associated with delays, mix-ups, and misunderstandings), forming a square to Saturn (limitations, boundaries, restrictions). Square aspects are usually quite tense and can cause some friction between the planets involved. The likelihood of messages or communications being prone to error (Mercury retrograde) in the face of authority or restrictions (Saturn) is high. However, Uranus (conjunct this Full Moon) is not a planet to just sit back and give up, so many may experience a few roller-coaster days with lots of stop-start, yes-no, and impulsive actions.

A Full Moon is sometimes related to the corresponding New Moon in the same zodiac sign six months prior. The related prior New Moon for this Full Moon was on 22 April 2020.
