Lunar Eclipse – 26 May 2021

The Lunar Eclipse of 26 May 2021 is a Total Lunar Eclipse. During a Total Lunar Eclipse, the Sun and Moon are exactly opposite each side of the Earth. The darkest part of Earth’s shadow (umbra) is cast upon the Moon, but some Sunlight still reaches the Moon. The sunlight filters out most of the blue light from the Earth’s atmosphere when this happens, and the Moon appears to be red. This is known as a Blood Moon.

The website TimeandDate.com says of this eclipse “If you are in Australia, parts of the western US, western South America, or in South-East Asia, you will see the Super Flower Full Moon totally eclipsed and turn a shade of red for about 14 minutes during this total lunar eclipse, weather permitting.”

The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse is also a SuperMoon. The Old Famer’s Almanac says that this is “the closest, brightest, biggest full Moon of 2021”.

The Total Lunar Eclipse will be occurring at 5° Sagittarius 25′. The Sabian Symbol for this eclipse degree is 6° Sagittarius – “A game of cricket.”

What is a Lunar Eclipse?

A lunar eclipse occurs at the time of a Full Moon (Sun and Moon opposite each other/ 180 degrees apart). When the Sun, Earth, and Moon are all in alignment during a Full Moon, and the Earth is between the Sun and the Moon, a lunar eclipse occurs. It is safe to look at lunar eclipses.

Full Moons are traditionally a time of completion, harvest, or culmination. A lunar eclipse amplifies the full Moon’s power and may bring sudden change or bring something that has been hidden out in the open. Lunar eclipses tend to be associated with endings, more emotional, and focused on change from within.

You are unlikely to feel the full impact of this eclipse unless you have natal or secondary progressed planets that closely aspect the eclipse degree (5° Sagittarius 25′).

Astrological conditions of the 26 May 2021 Total Lunar Eclipse

The Lunar Eclipse takes place at 5° Sagittarius 25′, and its ruler Jupiter is currently in the sign of Pisces. Pisces is ruled by Jupiter in traditional astrology, so Jupiter is said to be “domicile” or at home in this sign. As such, Jupiter can (usually) easily do the things it wants to do in this sign.

Lucky for us, Jupiter, called the greater benefic, is associated with things like good luck, generosity, enthusiasm, wisdom, and expansion. The Moon in Sagittarius can also “see” Jupiter, which is a good thing. A planet being able to “see” its ruler means that it can call on its ruler for assistance.

However, that “seeing” that the Moon does, is in the form of a square aspect, which can be tricky. The Moon is in the superior position in this case, though (being earlier in zodiac sign than Jupiter). So The Moon does have the upper hand in this case.

BUT….this ain’t just a Moon, it’s a Total Lunar Eclipse, which is associated with sudden changes or bringing something that has been hidden out into the open. Lunar Eclipses tend to be associated with endings and are often more emotional and focused on change from within.

So, what does that mean? I imagine it means a lot going on, especially if you have natal planets or chart placements close to 5° of the mutable signs (Sagittarius, Gemini, Virgo, and Pisces). Jupiter can enlarge and blow things out of proportion. There may be many good things happening in your life, things coming to fruition, bearing fruit, but the pace may be more than you are comfortable with.

This Total Lunar Eclipse is also conjunct the South Node. Eclipses happen when either the New Moon or Full Moon is close (around 12°) of the North or South Node. This Total Lunar Eclipse is conjunct the South Node, which tends to lessen or decrease matters. So, it could that what we have been wrapping up, that the outcome is good (Jupiter ruling the eclipse) but not as good as we would have wished (the conjunction with the South Node).
