The lunar eclipse of 5 June 2020 is penumbral, which often looks like just a normal Full Moon. However, timeanddate.com says that “if you are in Asia, Australia, Europe, or Africa, you might see the Strawberry Moon turn a shade darker during the maximum phase of this penumbral lunar eclipse.”
Lunar eclipses occur on Full Moons, which are traditionally a time of harvest or culmination. It is a time for reaping what you have sown in previous New Moon periods.
A lunar eclipse amplifies the power of the Full Moon and may bring sudden change or bring something hidden out into the open. Lunar eclipses tend to be associated with endings, and be more emotional and focused on change from within.
The Sabian Symbol for this eclipse degree is 16° Sagittarius – “Seagulls fly around a ship looking for food.”

Astrology of this Eclipse
The Moon at 15° Sagittarius 33′ opposes the Sun at 15° Gemini 33′ which forms the basis of the lunar eclipse. The Sun and Moon are aligned with Earth but are not exactly opposite each side of the Earth as they are in a total lunar eclipse.
At the time of this eclipse, both the Moon and the Sun will be very close to making a square to Mars at 15° Pisces 52′. This means that the t-square will be formed at the time of the lunar eclipse.
Mars is a planet of action. With Mars in the sign of Pisces, the action is emotionally driven (as Pisces is a water sign). Traditionally Pisces is ruled by Jupiter, a planet known for its association with expansion, knowledge, and justice.
The Moon is in the sign of Sagittarius, also ruled by Jupiter, while the Sun is in Gemini, which is ruled by Mercury. Mercury is associated with communications, thinking, and learning. Whereas Jupiter is concerned with philosophy and beliefs, or what might be thought of as the loftier side of intellectual matters, Mercury is concerned with the transmission of messages.
All three planets (the Sun and Moon are luminaries, but I am calling them planets for simplicity’s sake) are in mutable signs. Mutable signs are adaptable and fluid. They are not initiating like the cardinal signs are, or as immovable as the fixed signs can be.
Square aspects challenge or irritate us, often causing enough tension to encourage us to take some form of action. Squares can also represent matters that keep cropping up, needing to be dealt with.
The Lunar Eclipse itself is associated with sudden change, and hidden matters being exposed.
Emphasizing the communications theme we have Mercury at 9° of Cancer (an emotional, family-oriented position for Mercury to be in) having not long made a sextile (a helpful aspect) to Uranus (sudden, shocking, revolutionary) at 8° Taurus. Also of note perhaps, all the planets are contained between the Moon and the Sun, apart from Mercury.
Mercury is currently in the shadow period of its upcoming retrograde phase. This means that misunderstandings, miscommunications, and delays may already be happening for some people.
Venus which is currently retrograde is close to the Sun at the time of the Lunar Eclipse. Venus retrograde has us re-evaluating our values and relationships at this time.
Mars, the focus of the t-square that is occurring at the time of the eclipse, is close to Neptune. Neptune is idealistic but can blur boundaries.
Sensitive Zodiac Degrees for this eclipse
Those that have natal or secondary progressed planets at 14° to 16° of Sagittarius and Gemini, are likely to feel the effects of this eclipse more than others as these degrees are conjunct and opposite the eclipse degree.
Those with natal or secondary progressed planets at 14° to 16° of Pisces and Virgo may feel the impact quite significantly too. These positions will be squaring the eclipse degree.
Squares and oppositions are said to be hard or difficult aspects. If you have natal or secondary progressed Venus or Jupiter being squared by the eclipse degree, the changes that the eclipse ushers in may be more positive, but potentially short-lived. Squares or oppositions to Mars and Saturn by the eclipse degree may bring disgrace or ruin.
Those with natal or secondary progressed planets at 14° to 16° of Aries, Libra, Leo and Aquarius may feel some impact of the eclipse, as these positions are sextile and trine the eclipse degree. Sextiles and trines are helpful and easy aspects so potentially any changes will be good ones.
Those with natal or secondary progressed planets at 14° to 16° of Cancer and Taurus may find that they feel some impact of the eclipse. These positions are quincunx the eclipse degree and quincunxes often ask us to make adjustments of some kind.
