Astrology of the May 2021 New Moon in Taurus

The May 2021 New Moon will be at 21° Taurus 17′. Taurus is a fixed earth sign ruled by Venus. The Moon is exalted in Taurus, meaning that it is generally very comfortable in this sign, feeling akin to royalty in a way.

However, Venus (the ruler of Taurus and this New Moon) is in Gemini, the sign just after Taurus. As Taurus and Gemini are side-by-side in the zodiac, they are said to be in aversion or unable to see each other in Hellenistic astrology. You could think of it as them being in each other’s blind spot. As such, Venus cannot help or assist this New Moon. This is a little disappointing, especially as Venus is a benefic (brings about good things).

In Aquarius, we have the other benefic, Jupiter. Jupiter makes a superior sign-based square to this New Moon. While Jupiter is benefic, the square aspect indicates tension. We may get ahead of ourselves and overly optimistic.

Saturn (a malefic, which tends to cause restrictions and limitations) is also in Aquarius and likewise makes a superior sign-based square to this New Moon.

Neptune (which sometimes blinds us to issues) at 22° of Pisces makes a close superior sextile to this New Moon. Sextiles are often helpful, though, so maybe if these new beginnings are altruistic, idealistic, or spiritual, they may have a better chance of later manifesting.

New Moons are about new beginnings, new starts, new adventures. In Taurus, we may be contemplating lovely, indulgent, luxurious ventures. Venus is not available to assist, though.

Jupiter can help (but may go a little overboard). Neptune will undoubtedly make us think that all is going to be rosy. Saturn is likely to make us work hard for any results, though.

And then we have Mars and Uranus. Mars will be less than 8 hours away from making its exact sextile to Uranus at the New Moon. Uranus is all about sudden, surprising, shocking, revolutionary matters. Mars is associated with energy, ambition, drive, and action.

There is likely to be a lot of excitement surrounding this New Moon. The effects of the Mars sextile Uranus aspect are likely to be felt up until Thursday, giving us the adrenaline rush to make the changes necessary. Just as that adrenaline rush starts to dip, Jupiter moves into Pisces. The shift of Jupiter into Pisces is likely to increase enthusiasm and optimism but may distract from the original New Moon plans.

There is a lot of excitement and enthusiasm around this New Moon, but it may take real grit and determination to stay the course.

A New Moon in the 3rd house could manifest as you starting something new with a sibling or concerning your local neighborhood. You may be looking into taking some short courses (unlikely to be a degree as higher education is a 9th house topic).

The way that you communicate with others may undergo some change at this time, or the way that you get around in your day to day life might differ. For example, perhaps you decide to ride a bike more or devise a new routine when dealing with emails, correspondence, phone calls, etc.

New beginnings concerning where you live are possible at this time. You may be building a house, changing residence, or even moving to another country. The 4th house can also represent our home country (although I would expect to see some other activity related to the 9th house of foreign places if this were the case).

The 8th house is associated with shared finances and possessions. This can include shared funds with partners, inheritances, taxation, insurances, and institutions’ loans.

A New Moon in the 8th house could manifest as merging your finances or property with a partner (business or romantic). The 8th is also associated with inheritances. As New Moons are associated with beginnings rather than endings, I would expect to see perhaps the beginning of an estate being executed, rather than the death of a person per se.

A new loan may be taken out at this time, or an agreement with someone or something else regarding finances is possible. The 8th is the house of other people’s money. New dealing with regards to insurances and taxation are also possibilities of the New Moon in the 8th house.

The 9th house also covers the subjects of publishing and the law. It may be that you are about to embark on writing a book, or something of a similar nature. Existing conditions may experience some new beginning or change at this time too.
