Weekly Astrology for 3 to 9 October 2022

From late morning on Wednesday, Mercury (newly direct) moves up toward its upcoming trine with Pluto. The Mercury trine Pluto aspect will be exact late night (10:56 pm C.D.T) on Thursday and should start to wane from the early hours of Saturday.

We had a Mercury trine Pluto aspect not long ago, on 27 September. However, back then, Mercury and Pluto were both retrograde. Now Mercury is direct, and Pluto is getting ready to station direct a few days afterwards.

Things should hopefully be more straightforward now that Mercury is direct. However, we are still in the Mercury retrograde shadow period. Mercury will remain in the retrograde shadow until 16 October, when it catches up to where it was when it first stationed retrograde.

Until Mercury passes the degree (08° Libra 55′) it was at when it first appeared to stop and change direction, we can expect that there may still be some Mercury retrograde-like issues.

Also, complicating matters is the fact that Mercury is close to opposing Neptune. Neptune is a planet associated with foggy, hard-to-define or decipher qualities. When Mercury and Neptune are in opposition, it can often feel like a Mercury retrograde situation.

However, at the time of the Mercury trine Pluto aspect, Mercury and Neptune will be a good 3 degrees from being exact. I would not expect too much tension from the opposition from Neptune, but all this to say that Mercury is just not as in good a condition as it might appear.

Mercury is in Virgo, a sign that it rules and is exalted in, so it is very effective in this zodiac sign. However, as mentioned above, it is still within its retrograde shadow period. As it is newly direct, it travels slower than it usually does.

Pluto will station direct late afternoon (4:56 pm C.D.T.) on Saturday. If you have natal planets at 25° to 27° of Capricorn, Cancer, Aires or Libra, you may feel this shift in Pluto more obviously than others.

Pluto is associated with transformation, honesty, depth and power dynamics. There may be a build-up in these energies that have been somewhat repressed over the past 5 or 6 months.

Late afternoon (3:54 pm C.D.T.) on Sunday, we have the Full Moon at 16° Aries 32′.  Full Moons are associated with harvest, high points, culminations and endings.

All times given are for U.S.A. Central Time (C.D.T.)

After 6 years of providing weekly horoscopes, I have decided to move away from writing them for the website. However, I will still provide a weekly astrology round-up of what is happening in the skies.

For those interested in horoscopes, you might consider the Astro Babble podcast that I and Donna from Donna B Astrology co-host. We record horoscopes for the New and Full Moons, look ahead at the planetary aspects for the following two weeks and give our take on them. You can find the latest New or Full Moon podcast on the front page of this website or over at the Astro Babble YouTube Channel
